5 TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DIMENSIONING SYSTEM

by | Aug 8, 2022 | Dimensioning

If you recently purchased a dimensioning system, you’re probably eager to get it up and running to help your warehouse become more efficient. Whether you bought one or multiple dimensioning systems, ensuring you get the most out of your system is vital. This article outlines steps you can take to ensure that your company uses your dimensioning equipment profitably and efficiently.

Have the Right Software in Place

Dimensioning systems are high-tech, data collection equipment. Without the right software platforms, the data you collect isn’t worth much. It can’t be leveraged to drive decisions. Your goals will determine what software you need.

Every warehouse is different and there are several warehouse management software platforms in use at warehousing facilities. Make sure that the software from your dimensioning provider can integrate with your existing software.

Properly Train Employees

Good employee training can make a huge difference in extending the life of your equipment. When employees aren’t 100% sure how to use the various controls, the risk of error and damage increases. By putting your employees through a solid training program, you create well-informed team members who will use a dimensioning system properly. Occasional trainings are also a good idea to keep your employees well-versed on procedures and keep your operation running smoothly.

Keep Up With Regular Maintenance

All machinery needs regular preventative maintenance to operate well. Dimensioners aren’t an exception. A good provider will ensure they give you instructions on how and when a system needs maintenance. For some dimensioning products, replacing parts on your own is easy. For others, a technician may need to visit your facility to provide maintenance at certain times so your facility remains efficient without experiencing downtime.

Keep Your Dimensioner Safe

Dimensioning systems are designed to withstand the rugged conditions in industrial settings. However, they aren’t designed to be transported without being packed up properly. Trying to keep your dimensioner out of harsh elements and harm’s way will go a long way in preventing damage. If your dimensioning system sustains enough damage that causes it to not function, you’re losing time and money while you wait for repairs.

Stay in Touch with Your Provider

The dealer who sold you your dimensioner isn’t just a salesperson. That person should have a wealth of knowledge about your new investment. If questions arise about your operation, maintenance, or anything else regarding your system, a good relationship with your provider means you will always have someone knowledgeable to call for an answer. Similarly, if you encounter any problems, your vendor should have a support team to help you troubleshoot and get you back on track. Ultimately, your supplier is a valuable resource for understanding the ins and outs of how your equipment works. Forming a long-lasting relationship will bode well in the future if you need to purchase more equipment going forward.

Like any investment, you want your dimensioning solution to have a long life, because it’s an essential component of your business. Without reliable and well-maintained equipment, you risk delaying progress and hurting your chances of securing more business.
